A New School Year

John 15:1-5

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch of mine that bears no fruit, he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in your. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Thought for the Day:  Will the face of God be seen in us today?

As each new school year begins, there are always preparations and readiness that happens. Today begins a new school year for my new Middle School child and the excitement in his talk and walk has shown over the past few days. I watched Nathaniel last night as he opened his box of school supplies and began making decisions about what supplies he needed to take with him today and which ones he could wait to carry to school at a later time. He packed each supply neatly into pencil boxes and pouches, then carefully placed everything into his new backpack to be ready on this special day. His excitement, along with the 17 children and their families who visited my classroom yesterday for our school’s “Sneak a Peek” Day, helped center my thoughts as a teacher on what is really important. What is important is helping each child develop their own unique talents and abilities where their excitement in learning will continue and grow. My prayer today is that I can reach the children where they are and that I can let God lead me to help them meet their full potential.

There is an excitement in the air today and God will lead me to a place where that excitement continues through me where my children at home and my students at school will see something special shining through me, and that of course is God. Let your face radiate the face of Jesus as you go through your day.

Prayer:   God, help us listen to Your voice as we go through our day to know who needs us in each moment. As a teacher, help me learn about my students where I can be who they need in each moment. As a mother, help me understand how to help my children become your disciples. Amen.
