1 Peter 4:10-11
As each has received a gift, employ it for one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who utters oracles of God; whoever renders service, as one who renders it by the strength which God supplies.
Thought for the Day: Say “yes” to God and He will equip us to follow His call
“I said no to God!” A special friend called to ask me if I would help her by singing and leading a couple of songs for a small worship time the next morning with children in a Vacation Bible School and I said no. I had excuses that were real because of family responsibilities, but the real reason was that I felt uncomfortable going to this particular place. I said no, but her words stuck with me as I went through the evening.
The next morning came and I began my routine of blogging and doing my devotional time. I found that my mind would not allow me to read and comprehend the words, and I felt an anxiety that I had done something wrong. As the morning progressed, I felt the nudge that I was supposed to go and do as I had been asked, but I still sat contemplating the situation. Then, I opened one more devotional book and began reading where I had left off the previous morning. It said, “Which way do I go, Lord? What choice do I make? I come to you in prayer for signs of the directions you wish me to take and the choices you wish me to make. Help me focus on the little signs you give me each day so that my path takes me to that higher place you have promised me. Thank you, Lord, for answering my prayer. Amen.” I quickly got off the couch, read these words to my husband, and said, “I’ve got to go”. In one hour I called to see if they could still use me for the service, showered and dressed, tuned my guitar that had not been tuned or played in almost a year, searched for the box of my children’s music for songs, and drove to the church.
As I arrived, the precious lady who asked me to come met me. I told her how nervous I was and she grabbed my hands to pray over me. She prayed that God would calm my anxiety and that the music would honor him. As only God can design, the three songs I chose out of my unorganized boxes went so perfectly with the message of the worship services that it was as if they had been planned. I played the guitar as if I had been playing it all along, and the reaction from the children and the adult leaders was precious.
I said no to God. I said no to God. And then I said yes. I said yes to God. Through His obvious nudging, and then His shoving through devotional words, God urged me to say yes. When I said yes, He equipped me with exactly what I needed to fulfill His plan.
Prayer: God, help us hear your voice when you call us to go. Help us say yes when you call and trust that You will equip us with what we need. You are awesome, God, and there is no one above you. Thank you for leading us in the way we should go. Amen.
