Mark 6:31

And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place, and rest a while.”

Thought for the Day:  Take time to rest in God.

“Rest”. What a wonderful word. That word gives a very strong instruction from God to us. That one word command tells us to rest in Him. As we attended a worship service where our dear friend, Dr. Angela Harris, preached, we heard her sermon about rest. God told the disciples who were worn out from performing the healing miracles and the daily transportation by foot from one place to another to rest. God instructed them to rest, to rest in Him. Today in our “busyness” of life, it is difficult to find that time of rest. Those of us with children find that time by ourselves to rest in God’s presence becomes very limited when we begin work to meet their needs. Our own work pace takes so much of our time and energy that we do not take time to rest throughout the day. But God calls us to Rest. How do we do that? Yes, we would love to have a true day to rest each week, but that doesn’t come easily. As Dr. Harris said in her sermon, “You have to find the small periods of time when you can just stop for a few moments.”

I have felt recently, as we have realized we will be moving in the near future, that I need to be up working on packing, cleaning, and still taking care of the children. There is a feeling of anxiety when I think about all that needs to be done. I almost feel guilty when I take the time to rest. As we drove home from that service and talked about the message, it came to my heart that the time I spend in the mornings blogging, reading devotionals, and writing is my “Rest” time with God. That time gives my mind and heart the focus for my day with that focus being on God. I can then enter my busy day knowing that God is with me, giving me direction in all I do.

Prayer:   God, thank you for giving us rest. In that time of rest, please come to us in a way that focuses our heart and mind on you. Help us throughout the day to take those small moments to “Rest in You.”  Amen.
