Letting God Take Control

Joshua 1:9

Be strong and of good courage; be not frightened, neither be dismayed; for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

Thought for the Day:  All is better when we let God take control

“He’s burning up,” I said as I woke my husband in the middle of the night. Our little boy was sleeping between us because he had been ill and we wanted to have him near us. We immediately gave our little boy medicine to bring down his fever and then checked his temperature. My husband and I both worked at doing things to bring down his fever. I brought him ice water to drink and a cold compress for his head and to cool his body. My husband, however, went to the extreme. He ran a cool tub of water in case we felt it was needed. After awhile, the fever seemed to linger so my husband picked up our little boy and playfully had him put his toes into the water. Then, he had him stand in the tub. Finally, our little boy sat in the cool tub of water and began asking for his bath toys. Eventually, I heard laughter coming from the bathroom as my little boy played in the water and my husband laughed with him in enjoyment. When we got him out of the tub and checked his temperature only twenty minutes later, it had come down enough that my husband and I felt we could all go back to sleep and that our little boy would be safe.

As I awoke this morning, I prayed for God to lead us through our day and through some decisions we had to make. Then, I realized that my husband gave me the perfect example during the night of God taking control of a situation. I, in my motherly gentle way, tried to comfort my child through a cold compress, medicine, and touch. My husband, however, took over the situation and placed our child into a cool tub of water that almost immediately brought down the fever. Isn’t this how God is? We try to do things on our own, but when God takes control, sometimes in a less desired way, we find ourselves back in His will. Today, I ask God to take control of our situation where many decisions need to be made. I ask God to help us know where He is leading us in a sure and unquestionable way.

Prayer:   God, thank you for taking control of our lives when we are going in another direction. Help us know, without a doubt, where You are leading us today. Be with us as we go through our daily situations, helping us to see clearly the direction we need to go. Amen.
