Just Be Yourself

John 16:13-15

“Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.”

Thought for the Day:  Just Be Yourself

“Just be yourself” are the words that my husband and I have been hearing from many as we anticipate travel in the next few days to be in conversation with a pastor and others about a possible Minister of Music and Worship position in a church. As that has become a theme for us over the past days, I was amazed when I read the following words in a devotional this morning, “Relax in My peaceful Presence. Do not bring performance pressures into our sacred space of communion. When you are with someone you trust completely, you feel free to be yourself. This is one of the joys of true friendship. Though I am Lord of lords and King of kings, I also desire to be your intimate Friend. When you are tense or pretentious in our relationship, I feel hurt. I know the worst about you, but I also see the best in you. I long for you to trust Me enough to be fully yourself with Me. When you are real with Me, I am able to bring out the best in you: the very gifts I have planted in your soul. Relax, and enjoy our friendship.” What great words to have implanted in our hearts and minds as we go into these days of decision, and the possibility of a new experience with a wonderful group of new friends.

These words are the words my husband and I need today as we prepare for our trip. These are words from the “Jesus Calling” devotional book by Sarah Young.   Isn’t this a wonderful way to look at our relationship with God. He wants us to be ourselves when we are in His presence and since we are in His presence all the time, “Be yourself.”

Prayer:   God, thank you for bringing me what I need in scripture and devotional reading to where my thoughts need to be today. You are an awesome God and you give me what I need each day to center my focus on You.
