Spending More Time with God

2 Peter 1:5-8

For this very reason make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these things are yours and abound, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thought for the Day:  Know Christ and Make Him Known

Today I reflect over the past few months as I have taken on my more determined time of spiritual Bible study and writing. This time has brought me to the next level in my relationship to God and has brought me into a different mindset as I go through my days. I feel more focused on God and my desire to be closer to Him. Throughout the last years, I have felt a pull from God to do something more but have always made excuses. The busyness of the day always pulled me away from making time with Him and I never took the time to establish the great habit of spending time with Him. As I reflected back over my last years, I realize that I had the desire to study the Bible and to spend more time with God, but I didn’t take the time to establish a routine. It took a huge nudge from a friend and seeing her example to fill my heart so full with the desire that I couldn’t put it off any longer. Now that I have the routine and habit in place, I am lost without my special time with God each day. We’ve all heard the phrase, “You’ve come a long way, Baby”. Well, in my life right now I feel this phrase is about me and I don’t want to ever go back. Now, I am thankful for where God has led me and can’t wait to see what the next level brings. Lord, Here Am I.

As my friend showed me her example on that Sunday evening in January of this year, how can I show my example to those around me. I believe this is a question for all of us. How do we “Know Christ and Make Him Known”? We study the Bible, spend time with Him, and then show Him to those around us in example. We are Christ to the World.

Prayer:   God thank you for sending human examples to us who let us witness ways to become closer to You. Help us feel the urge each day to spend more time with You in study and prayer where we will learn to be more like You. Amen.
