Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Thought for the Day: God will shine His light on our darkness
When our son was three years old, we traveled to a beach city. We arrived late in the afternoon in time to eat supper and to unpack our things into the beach house where we were staying. Later that evening, after it had gotten dark, we went for a walk on the beach. The sound of the waves hitting the beach was very loud and our son, Nathaniel, started crying and clung to his daddy. We thought we would not be able to take him back because he was so scared. The next day, when it was sunny and warm, we tried again. This time, Nathaniel played and ran in the sand and wanted to go into the water. We realized that in the darkness, the sound of the waves was too overwhelming for him but when he could see the ocean in the light, he loved it.
How often are we fearful of the way God is leading us because of the unknown, and cling to the familiar. Later, when we can see in the light, we begin to see clearly where he has led.
Prayer: Father, thank you for the light. Help us feel the warmth of your hand as we walk through the darkness and help us know that you are leading us to a place that, in the light, is perfect. Amen.
