The Presence of God

Jeremiah 23:23-24

“Am I a God at hand, says the Lord, and not a God afar off? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? Says the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth?” says the Lord.

Thought for the Day:  God is always in our presence

As I sit outside on a beautiful morning I am very aware of God’s movement in very subtle ways around me. As a breeze blows the limbs on the trees where they sway back and forth, and as it makes the chimes move to make their music, it is obvious that movement is happening. But then as the breeze slows and the chimes become still, I realize that there is a very slight movement happening above me although it is not so obvious. As I look up into the canopy of the tree it looks so still and serene, then I notice a section of the tree moving. As I look more closely, I see the movement of a squirrel scampering through the limbs. Now, a minute later, I hear the chimes again and hear the movement of the leaves in the tree. I realize that the breeze is never really still and that it is always in motion.

Isn’t this like our God is in our lives? Sometimes, God’s presence is so very clear and we know He is beside us in that moment. Then, there are times when God’s presence is more quiet and still, and we forget that He is right beside us. In those times, we question God and we question his plan for us. In those times we also try to figure things out on our own without including God. God wants us to acknowledge Him at all times and to acknowledge Him every minute of every day. He is there. He is present. His presence may be still, but He is always present with us just as the subtle breeze blows through the leaves on the trees.

Prayer:   Father God, thank you for loving us and being present with us every minute of every day. Help us learn to acknowledge you minute by minute every day. Make us more aware of you as we go through this day. Amen.

    1. So, here I am sitting on my couch with Mark in the recliner taking a nap and I see your comment. I gasped and he awoke to ask me what had happened. I read your comment to him and he just said, Awesome! Your words about my Daddy brought wonderful tears to my eyes – You made me feel like my Daddy actually said that. God bless you, Joe! I am so glad you wrote me. Please follow me and let me know of stories you remember about my Daddy. I would love to hear them.
