Our Gift of Love

Isaiah 55:8-9

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.  (RSV)

Thought for the Day:  The gifts from God are always more than we can imagine.

This morning, I look at my child who is sleeping on my sofa and remember a time twelve years ago when I wondered if I would ever have a child to love and cherish. My husband and I wrote letters, made an adoption booklet, and wrote possible birth mother letters. It wasn’t until we let go that we received a call from a friend that there was a young girl who was expecting and planned on giving her child up for adoption. This did not come through an agency because our adoption agency was still awaiting licensing. It came from a person in a church talking to their pastor, who talked to the director of the upcoming adoption agency. The wait seemed long and we tried to go on with our normal life as we were awaiting the news of our child’s arrival. Even in our wait, we wondered how it would be when he/she came. Finally, the day came, two weeks later than originally thought, and we felt our excitement build. We quickly gathered items for his arrival, cleaning the house and getting nursery items together.   All of the waiting and preparing did not prepare us for the sudden love that would overcome us through this tiny bundle. We knew God was leading us to this child, but we had no idea how glorious His gift to us would be.

That little boy is now eleven and has given us so much fun and laughter.   God gave us a little boy with such beautiful compassion for those around him and an obvious love for his heavenly father.

Our God knows our every need and in his time, he shows his gifts of love through ways that are far beyond anything we could ever imagine. It is not in our planning and doing, but in our trusting in God and turning our lives over to Him that gives us the gifts only He can imagine.

Prayer:   Our precious Father, please help us release our needs and wants, and await your magnificence in our lives. Amen.
