Special Friendships

Proverbs 17:17

A friend is always loyal, and a brother is born to help in time of need. (NLT)

Thought for the Day:  Special friendships are from God

After my brothers were confined to wheelchairs and were in middle school, we moved to Camden, a small county seat town in West Tennessee. As I remember back, it was amazing how quickly these two boys found friends. Before any time passed, each brother had a new friend who was willing to take care of them while they were at school, pushing them to their classes, taking them through the cafeteria line, and even taking them to the restroom when needed. I was younger so I did not get to witness much of what happened with them, but I do know that Marty was always there for my brother, Ricky, and Rommie was always there for Coble. These boys even walked through the graduation line pushing my brothers in their wheelchairs to receive their Camden Central High School Diplomas. The friendships were incredible and lasted until my brothers passed away. Even today, Marty has taken his place as my big brother who checks on me often, and my family loves visiting with his family each summer.

How did they meet and become good friends?  I do know that God had to place them together at the perfect moment. Each friend had the exact interests and talents that my brothers had, and they were perfect for each other. My brothers were very different from one another so for each to find that perfect companion had to be from God. No one else could have planned these remarkable friendships.

Prayer:   God, thank you for giving us the friendships we have. It is amazing how friendships are formed and that you are in the midst of them. Thank you for loving us so much that you give us exactly what we need. Amen.

  2. Debbie, Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, Mama and Daddy had a great relationship with the Kibbons family and we spent great times with them. I have enjoyed spending time (through Facebook) over the past few years getting to know the “Kibbons Girls”.
